Introduction

These are operational archives of electronic records, including Web sites and publications, that are created and managed by government entities or their surrogates. The main criteria for inclusion and the emphasis of this compilation is on born-digital records, not digital copies (digitized) records. The latter are normally created for access purposes. Some of these “archives” are programs with no operational components. Please use the comment form to send suggestions for inclusion.

National Archives of Australia, RecordSearch. The online catalog does not permit searches by physical versus electronic (digital) representation. Thousands of individual items have been digitized for public access and users can request digital copies of records. State Government of Victoria, Public Record Office, Digital Archive, “… operational, for record transfers and for online access, since August 2005,” and officially launched on December 13, 2005, electronic (digital and digitized) records, referred to as VEOs (VERS Encapsulated Objects), are accessed through the public catalog. The Advanced Search screen lets you search for Physical and/or Digital records. The Digital Archive was developed and based upon the Victorian Electronic Records Strategy (VERS), a 10-year project to produce an electronic recordkeeping system. Date accessed: 02006 01 07.
