Did anyone actually try it yet?
How is it compared to Google?
Good questions. I usually try these things, but decided to give Google Desktop Search, Yahoo! Desktop Search, MSN Desktop Search and Ask Jeeves Desktop Search a pass. About a year ago I was installing and uninstalling oodles of browser toolbars, none of which were beta, for my Searcher article “Toolbar Tangle” (April 2004), and the experience almost killed my system by exposing me to a bunch of malware/spyware/adware on what were supposedly legit toolbars. So I’ll leave it to others to try these tools and report on their success or lack thereof.
David – Google Desktop Search is *amazing* (especially the official 1.0 they released last week). You know how Windows XP makes you wait for about 5 minutes while it searches your C: drive? Google Desktop Search takes … seconds.
And if you use Outlook, you know how painfully slow it takes to search for an email (5 minutes, 10 minutes, …). Google Desktop Search – again, seconds.
AMAZING!
